Australian Apprenticeship Allowances
 
Commonwealth Trade Learning Apprenticeships
You may be eligible for two $500 payments just by undertaking a trade Australian Apprenticeship in an area of particular skills need.
These scholarships are for eligible Australian Apprentices who commenced their Australian Apprenticeship on or after 1 July 2004 in a skill shortage trade at Certificate III or IV level with a small or medium employer or a Group Training Organisation.
Australian apprentices may apply for the scholarship through their Australian Apprenticeships Centre after they successfully complete the first 12 months and second 12 months of their Australian Apprenticeship.
These tax exempt scholarship payments are made directly to eligible Australian Apprentices at the end of their first and second years of their Australian Apprenticeship.

Travel and Accommodation Subsidies
Queensland apprentices and trainees who travel more than 100 kilometers (round trip) from their usual workplace to where the registered training organisation provides off-the-job training, may be eligible for a travel and accommodation allowance. This allowance is claimed through the Department of Education Training and the Arts, for more information, please contact DETA 1300 369 935.
 
Living Away From Home Allowance (LAFHA)
LAFHA is paid to eligible apprentices and trainees who have had to move away from the parental/guardian home in order to commence or remain in a Australian Apprenticeship. Eligibility criteria applies.

Youth Allowance
Youth allowance is now available to full-time apprentices and trainees. Your eligibility to receive youth allowance is dependant on a number of factors including your personal situation, your fortnightly income and possibly your parents and/or partners income and assets. Please note: You cannot receive youth allowance and Living Away from Home Allowance. Youth allowance is administered by Centrelink, to apply or to get more information please phone 133633 or visit your local Centrelink office.
